For hundreds of years Burmese string puppets, or “Yoke Thé”, have been used to entertain families, in palaces and pagoda fairs. The stories can be lessons for the community, or for pure enjoyment.
Htwe Oo Myanmar is a family of puppeteers who have been keeping this tradition alive by giving performances in their home theatre in Yangon, at schools, festivals, and in front of dignitaries, including Her Highness Mahachakri Sirindhorn. They rose to become Myanmar’s top-rated puppet performance on Tripadvisor, with a 5-star rating.
Now they are bringing their honed skills to Thailand, presenting a selection of short family-entertainment scenes accompanied by traditional Burmese music. An enchanting insight into the rich legacy of folk-tales and traditions of our closest neighbours.
