BKK Kids were welcomed to Shrewsbury City Campus for a peep inside this unique and purpose-built primary day school for boys and girls aged 3-11 years. The school is conveniently located in Rama 9, just three kilometers from the centre of Sukhumvit, and offers a high quality primary education preparing kids for what awaits at their highly successful Riverside Senior School.

A Purpose Built Primary School

students at Shrewsbury City Campus

Students aged 3-11 at City Campus enjoy an ambitious and tailor-made British education with experienced UK teachers, on a school site that has been designed and built specifically for younger learners. Starting school can be overwhelming, for both children and parents! Many children will begin their education at a small nursery setting. City Campus offers a primary-sized school campus for the middle years, before children graduate to the large Senior School at Riverside.

The school is set on a 15-rai campus, and was expertly designed with the younger learner in mind. For example, the Early Years Hub has a fully working kitchen with low counters and safety hobs. The school’s Gymnastics Centre of Excellence boasts a selection of state-of-the-art gymnastics apparatus, pitched at the right height for primary students. There is no compromise by having to accommodate secondary-aged students on the same site.

Teachers at City Campus are carefully selected from the UK, through a rigorous recruitment process, which is conducted personally by the school’s Principal.

Early Years Expertise

The school’s self-contained Early Years Hub hosts a collection of beautifully designed learning spaces, decorated with natural materials and peppered with carefully designed play experiences around every corner. Children have free-flow access to the outdoor spaces, with soft under-foot flooring, a climbing tree, a sand scape, a fish pond, playhouses and a splash pool.

Led by Ms Cath Okill and her team of early years experts, the school firmly believes in inspiring a lifelong love of learning through play. Teachers focus on the individual learning journeys of each student, by tailoring the curriculum to the children’s interests.

Thai & Mandarin Languages

City Campus teaches the British National Curriculum. It also has comprehensive Thai and Mandarin programmes, taught by experienced and passionate language teachers. Immersion in Thai and Mandarin begins in Early Years, from 3 years old.

From Year 1 onwards, children study Thai five times a week. Daily teaching gives children a strong familiarity with Thai language and culture. Students will learn to read, write, speak and listen in Thai, in accordance with the curriculum objectives from Thailand’s Ministry of Education.

In Mandarin, students also develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in the context of immersive cultural experiences and celebrations.

Specialist Subjects

Performing arts at Shrewsbury City Campus

Whether your child is interested in sport, performing arts, music or construction, City Campus offers a strong foundation for young learners to discover their passions. At primary school level, students are exposed to a variety of sports including swimming, football, basketball, athletics, netball, golf, tennis and gymnastics. The state-of-the-art Aquatics Centre, the Gymnastics Centre of Excellence and the Sports Complex have all been built with the younger sportsperson in mind.

The 550-seater auditorium, the smaller recital venue and the private practice rooms set students on a strong path to musical excellence, from one-to-one instrument lessons to large-scale productions on stage in front of captive audiences.

City Campus is also the first school in Thailand to deliver the Design Engineer Construct! programme. The school’s specialist Design & Technology curriculum is designed to equip the next generation of digital architecture, engineering and construction professionals.

The school offers a multi-faceted after-school ‘You-Time’ programme, which gives children lots of opportunities to discover what their passions are and what they enjoy.

Values & Community

City Campus prides itself on a values-based education. Its ethos is not only about academic success, but also focuses on children’s emotional and social wellbeing, as they learn to be responsible and passionate citizens with strong characters and ambition. Shrewsbury enjoys a strong sense of community, between its two campuses in Bangkok, within the wider family of schools in Hong Kong and China, and with Shrewsbury School UK, founded by Royal Charter in 1552.

A Pathway To Shrewsbury Riverside

After graduating from City Campus in Year 6, students take up their guaranteed place in the Senior School at Shrewsbury Riverside.
Shrewsbury’s Riverside campus on Charoen Krung Road has held a successful track record in British education for over 15 years in Bangkok.
Students graduate from Senior School at Riverside equipped with internationally recognised IGCSE and A level qualifications that, year on year, provide the gateway to the world’s leading universities and colleges, including the elite Ivy League and Oxbridge institutions.

In 2019, 70% of IGCSE exams taken by Shrewsbury students were awarded either A* or A grade vs 21% UK average. Meanwhile 65% of A Level exam achieved A* or A grade vs 26% UK average.
