School Spotlight: Welcoming the New Head of School at St. Andrews, S107 Mr. Carl Hutson

St. Andrews Sukhumvit 107 is thrilled to welcome Mr Carl Hutson as our new Head of School.

“I am delighted and honoured to be joining St Andrews S107 as the new Head of School. Equally excited is my wife, Jeanna Fergusson, who will also start in Year 1 at S107.

I have spent the last 10 years in Stockholm, where I have led the development and controlled growth of the British International School into the region’s school of choice. I have also led authorisation processes to enable us to offer the IB Diploma and IGCSEs.

Before Sweden, I worked at the Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong, Jakarta and my birth country of England, where I was the Head of an independent school. While I have enjoyed all of the countries where I have been lucky enough to have lived, both my and Jeanna’s hearts lie in Asia. We, therefore, relished the opportunity to return, so we can get to know Thailand, a place we have visited many times as tourists.

We have just got here and are beginning to settle; we are looking forward to making Bangkok our home. From the few weeks I have been here, I feel like I have begun to get to know the school exceptionally well already. Over the coming months, I look forward to working closely with the team at St Andrew’s 107 to ensure a smooth transition.

The role of Head of School at any high quality international school involves wearing a wide range of hats. Still, some of the greatest transferrable skills a leader can have are the ability to listen, hear and reflect. I, therefore, also look forward to really immersing myself in the school and its wider community. My commitment to everything an excellent international education offers to its students and their families is unwavering, and my passion is to ensure we, as educators, provide them with the best start possible.

As with my previous school, I am excited about working with S107 over a long period of time to lead a great school on the next stages of its journey and development.

Outside of school, I have several interests, including travel, music, amateur dramatics and food. Unfortunately, some aspects of these have had to take an enforced break over the past year, but hopefully, they will be possible again soon. Jeanna and I enjoy exploring new countries and cultures and the broadening of the mind that brings. In fact, we are a very international couple; Jeanna grew up in New Zealand, my home country is the UK, we got engaged in Sri Lanka and married in the USA! We also enjoy scuba diving, so returning to Asia is wonderful, as the cold Baltic waters do not really have too much appeal.”

St. Andrews International School Sukhumvit 107 is a world-class international school for children aged 2 to 18 years old in Bangna, Bangkok. To find out more about us and to arrange a visit, please visit our website: https://www.standrewssukhumvit.com/
