This October, during the half-term break, Paron School of Art are excited to present a Halloween-themed art camp designed to inspire young artists. Their camps will encourage kids to unleash their creativity and make imaginative art projects centered around the spooky fun of Halloween. It’s the perfect way to get into the festive spirit while honing their artistic skills!
Here are some of the projects the students will be making.
Haunted House
This project lets kids unleash their imaginations by transforming a house into a monstrous creature using 3D and bas-relief techniques. Young artists will design and construct their own scary house, turning windows into eerie eyes, wooden boards into sharp teeth, and roof tiles into creature-like textures. Using cardboard and various construction materials, they will explore how to bring their ideas to life in three dimensions, focusing on creating detailed textures and expressive features. This project emphasizes creative textural techniques, as they build their own haunted, monster-infused houses.
Pumpkin Plushie
This project transforms the traditional Halloween jack-o’-lantern into a playful 3D art piece by crafting plushie pumpkins. Kids will explore basic sewing techniques, focusing on shaping and constructing soft, three-dimensional forms. As kids bring thwir pumpkins to life, they will delve into developing personalized character expressions for their faces, using fabric, thread, and embellishments to add unique features and details. The project emphasizes creative design and sculptural techniques, encouraging kids to experiment with form and expression as they create their own whimsical versions of this Halloween favorite.
Dia de Los Muertos Door Banners
This project invites young artists to explore the vibrant and intricate designs of Mexican Día de los Muertos skulls and skeletons. Through collage and mixed media, they will reinterpret the intricate patterns and bold colours that symbolize this festive celebration, focusing on the swirling shapes and decorative motifs. We will aim to bring these figures to life with playful use of layered textures and creative colour combinations, capturing their lively spirit and cultural significance.
Magicians, Wizards, and Witches
This project explores the mystical world of magicians, wizards, and witches, using mixed media drawing and painting to bring these magical figures to life. Working from a life-sized figure, kids will focus on capturing the dramatic folds of robes and the iconic pointed hats, while also incorporating a magical motif that represents their character’s command over the elements. Through layered textures, understanding positive and negative shapes, and using vibrant colours, they’ll connect their creations to symbols of fire, water, earth, or air, crafting powerful, elemental beings full of imagination and mystery.
Two-Headed Monster
This project dives into the myth of the two-headed monster or serpent, where kids will explore expressive painting techniques inspired by Basquiat and indigenous Aztec stories. Using acrylic paint, they’ll build up layers of bold colours and dynamic movement, creating two distinct creature heads that reflect their own imaginative interpretations. The project focuses on bringing these mythical beings to life through vibrant brushstrokes, texture, and energy, emphasizing personal expression and storytelling. Kids will learn how to channel the spirit of legends and contemporary art into their own unique monster creations.
