Hua Hin International School (HHIS) opened its doors in 2015 with 75 students and has continued to grow and flourish since. This welcoming and inclusive school now has over 420 students from Early Years to Year 13.
The school follows the National Curriculum for England up to Year 9, followed by the Cambridge IGCSE programme and finally the IB Diploma. The graduating students travel far and wide, to Universities in the UK, Europe and Australia, among others.
HHIS is a proudly inclusive school, and the curriculum, lessons and all extra curricula activities are designed so every student can thrive during their individual learning journey. For all learners, their successes are reflected through the progress they make and their achievements both in and out of the classroom. Every student at HHIS is celebrated for achieving their personal best and they are supported so they can graduate with the opportunity to advance to university and employment. Importantly, every student knows how they can continue to make a positive contribution in the future.
The first thing you notice about HHIS is the beautiful campus and its surroundings. The school is set with the beautiful backdrop of Black Mountain, providing a green and calm environment for the students to develop and learn. The campus is designed to make the most of this environment, with spacious and airy buildings, sports facilities, science labs and arts spaces. There is plenty of space to play, with age-appropriate playgrounds for the youngest children, a basketball court, and football pitch for the Secondary School students.
The school’s “I Values” drive everything they do and are evident through every part of daily life at the school . These values represent the characteristics and attitudes developed in the students. They can be seen in the way the students interact, engage in their learning and care for each other, their environment and the world beyond.
In August 2023, HHIS welcomed Beccy Fox as the new headteacher, succeeding the retired founding head, Julie Way. Bringing over 25 years of international experience from schools in locations like the Seychelles, Malaysia, Bali, and Hong Kong, Beccy began her career in London and has since been dedicated to enriching international education. Her commitment to nurturing a global outlook reflects the vibrancy of HHIS, a school that has over 30 nationalities in its community. Beccy equally values the importance of fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment, in which students, teachers and staff recognise and understand the diverse needs of the whole community. She has found such an environment at HHIS.
Beccy says of her first term at the school
“The past couple of months have been a wonderful whirlwind, getting to know the school community and the charming town, Hua Hin. I had been told how friendly and welcoming the school community is, and it truly is. The students, teachers and staff are happy to be at the school. It is well researched that students who feel happy, safe and valued, do much better at school. This applies to our teachers and staff as well. This positive and happy culture is good for everyone’ s well being and therefore their learning.”
This culture, the focus on community and student centred educational philosophy is what attracted her to the school.
Beccy joins the school at an exciting time. The school has grown considerably in the last few years and is looking forward to a bright future. “Spending time getting to know the school and its community is a very important first step. As we plan for the future we must make sure we maintain what makes the school special: its inclusive and caring community, the gorgeous, green campus and commitment to student-centered education.”
