Fondant cakes are a staple at kids’ (and even some adults’) parties these days, and we’ve been on the lookout for such cakes that are beautiful as well as delicious. Here’s where Hobby Cake comes in.
Started in 2002, Hobby Cake reflects its founder Khun Pum’s love of baking. Having retired, she started baking cakes as a hobby, but her creations were so amazing, people around her encouraged her to start taking orders for custom-made cakes. She thus started a bakery shop at her house. As you may know, Hobby Cake expanded fairly quickly with outlets in Emporium and Siam Paragon; however, they closed the branches in 2010, and they are now focusing on made-to-order cakes for special occasions.
Nonetheless, Hobby Cake continues to operate from a facility in Lad Prao, maintaining their good reputation and competitive prices at a manageable pace. They also just focus on customised artistic celebration cakes for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, graduations and corporate events, including the below creation made for BKK Kids! They say, “Our mission is to deliver happiness to people by making every occasion unforgettable. We are very focused on this concept, and we believe custom cakes are great method to make this happen, and we also are trying to achieve this in various ways.”
One way is through the shop, which serves as a dedicated production room (with no retail sales space). Customers can pick up their pre-ordered cakes upon completion, or Hobby Cake can deliver the cake to the customer’s home or party space directly, helping to save time for those who are tied up with birthday or other party preparation tasks.
In terms of the most popular cakes, taste-wise, “American Chocolate” is a bestseller, with a light, moist texture and flavorful taste. From the design perspective, cartoon character cakes, dinosaur design cakes and unicorn cakes are very popular for kids. Adults tend to go for elegant flower designs.
Another initiative includes their “Fondant Cake Making Class”. Recently, Hobby Cake was at Wells International School where their professional patissier demonstrated how to make and decorate cupcakes. It was a fun experience for the students, while aligning with Hobby Cake’s mission of delivering happiness, one cake at a time.
