Are you worried about taking your children to the cinema in Bangkok as you feel they may disturb others or will find the experience quite scary? Fear not! Kid friendly cinemas have opened all over Bangkok.
We decided to try out Icon -Cineconic Kids cinema at ICONSIAM. The experience did not disappoint and my children loved both the movie and the cinema.
About ICON CINECONIC
ICON CINECONIC Cinema is a world class luxurious cinema located on the 6th, 7th and 8th floors of ICONSIAM Shopping Mall on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. It has 14 cinemas including IMAX, 4DX, VIP, Kid Cinema and a Living Room Theater. There are E-Ticket machines where you can pay in cash or by credit card and helpful staff to assist with the ticket purchases. The Kids cinema is perfect for families who would like to enjoy a cinema experience with their children that is child friendly and fun and without the worry of disturbing others.
What We Loved Most About ICON CINECONIC
We all loved the extremely comfy and very colourful sofa that all five of us could fit onto. My children are always hesitant about going to the movies in Thailand because of the very loud and often scary advertisements and previews that are put on before the movie starts. However, in the kids cinema the volume is 20% lower and no scary inappropriate previews are shown either! Soft lighting (30% more than normal) means that kids can move around easily and make use of the long tunnel slide that runs along one side of the cinema straight into a ball pit with over 1000 balls! There’s enough light for them to play and run around and also be able to watch the movie clearly and for parents to ensure that their children are safe.
The MiK lounge with toys and small play equipment including a slide is provided for children and parents to use prior to the movie starting which is handy if you have active kids that can’t sit still and get bored waiting. They had a TV showing upcoming children’s movies previews which entertained my children while we waited. There was a safe area to keep strollers too and a dedicated children’s bathroom.
While Your Visiting ICON CINECONIC
Be sure to make time to visit the amazing ‘Light and Water Show’ at river park at ICONSIAM held every evening at 18:30, 20:00 and 21:00. It is a free show lasting approximately 20 minutes featuring a 400 metre water dance with spectacular 2D, 3D and 4D simulations and water jets that shoot up to 35 metres high! It is the longest water feature in Southeast Asia.
We timed our visit perfectly for a late afternoon movie which finished just in time for the 6.30pm show. Kids were enthralled and it was lovely to also see ICONSIAM lit up at night and watch the boats going up and down the Chao Phraya River too.
Things To Consider If You Go To ICON CINECONIC
It is important to note that usage of the slide and ball pit in the kids cinema is only for children 120cm in height and below and they require all children to wear socks (These were available for purchase on our visit right outside the cinema entrance).
Also be prepared for lots of movement and noise from children using the slide and ball area. This is great if you have active children that can’t sit through a whole movie but may be frustrating for children wanting to sit and watch the movie in silence. Parents need to be open minded and remember the space is designed for a kid-centered experience.
