Bangkok Places: 5 Things to Do in Chidlom

Out and about in Chidlom? If you’re looking for fun or educational ways to keep the kids busy and entertained, here are five recommendations.

1. Taking a class at Gymboree

A global leader in early learning development, Gymboree offers kids aged 0-5 a fun-filled environment to play, learn and develop important skills for the big world ahead. Art, music and play and learn classes are split into age-appropriate activities so little ones can join a class that fits their own stage of development. When kids reach three years old, they can join the ‘School Skills’ class where they’ll learn about group work, listening and creativity through activities focused on numeracy, alphabets, shapes and science.

2. Playing at Central Friendly Land

Convincing the kids to walk around a shopping mall is so much easier when you throw in the prospect of swinging by an indoor play centre. And if you’re visiting Central Chidlom Department Store, you can combine a morning of shopping with an hour or two at Central Friendly Land – an indoor play zone tucked away behind the toy section on the 6th floor. Along with a climbing frame featuring slides and a mini ball pit, kids can busy themselves with a small crafts area, play houses, video games, coin-op rides and play equipment. As for the entry price? A mere 40 baht!

3. Checking out Asia Parkour

Based in Amarin Plaza, Asia Parkour offers unique classes for kids ages 8 to 15 years old (and adults), teaching the art of parkour or natural and bodyweight movements. Their Ninja Kids programme fosters kids’ natural inclination to jump around and be active. Students of all abilities will benefit from fun and encouraging parkour training sessions in a safe environment where they will develop motor skills, coordination, social skills, teamwork, physical and mental confidence through movements.

4. Exploring TK Park

This huge learning space on the eighth floor of CentralWorld makes education feel a whole lot of fun in a sophisticated, multimedia environment. Aimed at children and young adults, the ‘park’s’ mammoth amount of attractions include a virtual reality centre, learning auditorium, mini theatres, a reading park, IT workshops and a music library. Meanwhile, the ‘Mind Room’ offers a forum for young people to share ideas and collaborate in areas related to the creative industries such as art and architecture, film production, fashion, and performing arts.

5. Shopping at IQ Plus Music

If you think you’ve got a musical maestro on your hands, or just want to stop your kids using your pots and pans for a drum set, you’ll want to visit IQ Plus Music. Located in Mahatun Plaza, this shop has lots of bright, visually appealing instruments aimed at toddlers and young children. You won’t see pianos and violins here, but what you will find are lots of drums, ukuleles, glockenspiels and a huge amount of wood carved sound makers for them to plonk, rattle and shake to their hearts content. Encouraging smiles and an emergency set of earplugs are recommended; call in advance to enquire about opening hours.
