Benefits of Pre-Natal Massage

Pregnant

Carrying a baby is no easy task. Physically, the extra weight changes one’s center of gravity and puts a large amount of stress on the back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes the ligaments; pelvic joints are less stable and the pelvis gets pulled forward. Different women will experience  a range of symptoms. It’s tough on the body, to say the least, especially during the third trimester.

This is why it’s great to have therapeutic massages throughout pregnancy. A specially trained masseuse will know which areas to focus on (and which areas and techniques to avoid). “Massage helps nurture yourself and prepare your body for childbirth, recovery, breastfeeding, and the physical and emotional demands of having a baby. The goal of pregnancy massage is to provide emotional and physical support through nurturing touch,” says Doris Seau, Founder, Trainer & Health Practitioner of EduQ International Wellness, which enhances children and women’s health using aromatherapy, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), therapeutic massage, and yoga.

Other benefits of prenatal massage include:

  • Enhance relaxation
  • Decrease insomnia
  • Decrease physical and mental stress
  • Relieve tension on weight bearing joints (knees, pelvis, ankles, etc.)
  • Neck and back relief from supporting the added weight of the baby and breasts
  • Assist in the maintenance of proper posture
  • Prepare and maintain the muscles for childbirth
  • Decrease swelling of hands and feet
  • Decrease sciatic pain
  • Decrease calf cramps
  • Relieve stress/tension headaches

At EduQ, pregnancy massage combines a pure organic oil massage with acupressure and facial skincare. Moreover, Doris also provides postanatal care massage, which can help get the body back into shape and relieve some of the aches and pains from pregnancy, birthing, nursing, and taking care of a baby.

“It also helps with postpartum depression because it provides relief from stress and physical tiredness,” adds Doris. ” After the new mom receives postpartum care massage, we can also teach a short 15 minutes baby massage to help with bonding. It also helps with the baby’s relaxation, enhances better sleep patterns, and relieves tummy discomfort.”

For more information on private 90-minute pregnancy, postnatal, and baby massage sessions at your home, please contact Doris at [email protected] or visit EduQ’s website and facebook page.
