School Spotlight: Sathorn/Silom to Riverside

As part of our ongoing focus on education, we are exploring the international education options, covering all levels and curricula, in various Bangkok neighbourhoods. Below are the choices for the Sathorn area, stretching from the Central Business District to the riverside.

Centre ACACIA

This bilingual nursery on Soi 2 Sathorn teaches English and French to children aged 1 to 5 years old, with 4 groups each dedicated to a specific age group. The “play-and-learn” approach to development is designed to nurture independence and creativity, encouraging children to express themselves through a variety of activities including singing, dancing and arts and crafts. Each week, a specific theme is taught in both English and French to provide a central learning focus.

Crescent International School (CIS)

Situated in Soi Sribumphen, Crescent International School follows the UK national curriculum from key stage 1 to key stage 4. CIS provides an education that embraces different cultural values among its own diverse student population, with an emphasis on establishing a creative and happy learning environment. Students are also equipped for the multi-lingual world through foreign language programs in English, Arabic, Hindi, French and Chinese.

DADI International Early Learning Center

Located in Soi Narathiwas 24 in Yannawa, DADI was established as a joint initiative between the China based Dadi International Preschool Group and a Thai-British educational program. A student-centered approach to learning encourages children to develop independent thinking, while all the while gaining a sense of cultural awareness. Study topics are chosen based upon the specific interests of students – the intention being that it helps boost engagement and active involvement with the subject.

Garden International School

Situated close to Lumpini Park in Sathorn Soi 2, Garden International School delivers an international education based upon the British education system. The school teaches children from around 35 countries, creating a truly multi-cultural learning environment. Students up until the end of Year 9 follow a locally adapted version of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the English National Curriculum. Older students then follow the highly regarded Cambridge IGCSE course. In August 2016, Garden International School will also be introducing the prestigious Cambridge A-Level programme.

Learning Home International

This international kindergarten in the Silom/Sathorn area is conveniently located right next to Chong Nonsi BTS station, making it easy for parents to drop off the kids. The school follows the American curriculum and teaches age groups between 1 ½ and 6, with 3 terms each year. The educational style at Learning Home International is centered upon a firm belief that learning should feel fun and worthwhile, helping to inspire active engagement from its students.

New Sathorn International School (NSIS)

Situated in the heart of the Central Business District in Narathiwas Soi 24, New Sathorn International School (NSIS) is a Christian school that combines elements from both the British and American programs – remaining independent from any specific national system. Over 30 different nations are represented among the school’s student body, which covers nursery aged children all the way up to grade 12.

Noddy Playgroup

Back in 1978, Noddy Playgroup had just 2 students. But today, this international kindergarten has around 120 children aged between 2 to 6 years old. Tucked away on Soi 2 Yen Akkart, the school boasts a kitchen for cooking classes, a large gymnasium, grass playing field and a children’s swimming pool. Parents who wish to enroll their children in extra-curricular clubs can choose from soccer, kid’s sports, eurhythmics and Thai Language, while classes such as judo and ballet are available subject to demand.

Shrewsbury International School

This prestigious British international school, offering Early Years to Secondary levels, features an idyllic location near the banks of the Chao Phraya River on Charoen Krung Road. Modern facilities and contemporary teaching principles are combined with a sense of tradition, developed through a strong and active relationship with its sister school in the UK. High achievers in music, visual and performing arts and sports are able to further develop their talent through the school’s “Excellence Programmes”. These prized scholarships are offered to the most exceptional students after a rigorous selection process.

St. Andrews International School, Sathorn

Teaching the British curriculum to students aged 2 to 11, St. Andrews International School Sathorn is a local community school in Sathorn Soi 4 in Bangkok’s central business district. Part of Cognita (a global network of over 60 schools), St. Andrew’s academic excellence has been recognised by way of a “Gold” rating from the CfBT Education Trust. The busy urban location nearby is in sharp contrast to the school’s quiet, leafy environment and century-old heritage building. Facilities are very much 21st century, though, thanks to a 25-metre swimming pool, two air-conditioned halls, and an IT and science lab.
