At Shrewsbury International School Bangkok City Campus, nurturing the mental well-being of our students is at the forefront of our pastoral care practice. As educators, we understand that a child’s emotional health profoundly impacts their academic success and overall happiness. Therefore, we are committed to providing a supportive environment where every child feels valued, understood, and empowered to thrive.
Embracing Global Mental Health Initiatives
Throughout the year, we actively engage with global initiatives such as Children’s Mental Health Week in February, Mental Health Awareness Month in May, and World Mental Health Day in October. These initiatives serve as powerful reminders of the importance of prioritising mental health in our school community.
Promoting Mental Health Through Fun Activities
In line with global mental health initiatives, Shrewsbury International School Bangkok City Campus holds activities to support these initiatives and make the concept of mental well-being more hands-on for our students. These activities help instill healthy habits that benefit our students’ mental health. Examples include:
- Express Yourself Day: We let students discuss their feelings and engage in opportunities for self-expression, promoting understanding of how self-expression can relieve stress and free our minds.
- Dress To Express Day: We invite children to dress however they like to express themselves and embrace their uniqueness.
- Well-being Art Wall: An interactive art installation asks passersby questions relating to well-being.
Values of the Month
Each month, we focus on specific values to teach children about important life values, especially for their mental well-being. These values include Optimism, Kindness, Empathy, and Resilience. At the beginning of 2024, our value of the month is “Optimism.” As part of fostering optimism, we equip our students with the resilience and positivity needed to navigate life’s ups and downs. Through classroom discussions, assemblies, and practical strategies, we encourage our students to approach challenges with optimism and a growth mindset.
As we continue our journey towards prioritising children’s mental health, let us reaffirm our commitment to creating a school community where every child feels supported, accepted, and empowered. Together, we can lay a strong foundation for a brighter and more resilient future for them.
