Bangkok Places: 5 Things to Do in Asoke

If you’re heading into the heart of the hectic Asoke-Sukhumvit area, here are 5 great activities for the whole family to enjoy.

1. Solve a mystery at Escape Hunt Bangkok

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a Sherlock Holmes, put your detective instincts to the test at Escape Hunt. Aimed at ages 7 and upwards, groups are locked into a games room and tasked with solving a crime within 60 minutes. There are 3 different games to choose from: Theft at the Art Gallery, Blackmail in the Bedroom and Bangkok Poison. To get to the bottom of the crime, groups need to find various clues and solve puzzles scattered around the room — great fun for the whole family!

2. Check out Terminal 21

Far more than just your average shopping experience, Terminal 21 is themed as an international airport. Each of its nine floors represents a far-flung international city, from Istanbul, London and Tokyo to San Francisco, Rome and Paris. As well as the unique decor on each floor, there’s also a cinema complex and a sprawling food court on the top floor serving up a variety of tasty (and incredibly cheap!) Asian dishes including Thai, Chinese, Indian and Japanese cuisine.

3. Step back in time at Kamthieng House

Amid the soaring skyscrapers of Asoke, Kamthieng House offers a glimpse of traditional Thai life. Built in 1848, this renovated teak house originally sat on the banks of the Ping River in Chiang Mai Province. Transported to the capital in 1964, it now serves as a museum and the headquarters of the Siam Society – a group tasked with preserving Thailand’s cultural heritage. The museum displays items of traditional Laana culture and also features a 3D film hosted by “Tokto” – an animated gecko who acts as a virtual tour guide to explain various traditional Laana rituals and activities.

4.  Get some fresh air at Benjakitti Park

Built to celebrate the 60th birthday of Queen Sirikit, Benjakitti Park is a tranquil oasis in the heart of Asoke. The 20.8-hectare park has an artificial lake at its centre with canoes and paddle boats available for hire if you fancy heading out on the water. Surrounding the lake is a 2km track, making it perfect for a slow stroll among beautifully manicured gardens. But if you’re keen on getting a bit more active, bicycles can be rented inside the park.

5. Build robots at Kids’ Robotics Learning Center

This fun, hands-on environment for 3 to 16 year olds gives children the chance to learn and play by building and programming their own robots. There are 3 courses aimed at different age groups, guiding them through progressively more advanced workshops to help develop a range of skills. While younger ones learn focus on things like literacy, language and fine motor skills, older children develop knowledge in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, helping them acquire skills that can be applied to higher education and the workplace.
