Hoop Club Thailand – More than Just Basketball

Hoop Club

Hoop Club Thailand is a Community Basketball Club founded on the principles of Family, Dedication and Education. Our aim is to “open the door” for every young person in Thailand to have an opportunity to work hard on the basketball court and in the classroom – the “Amateur Student Athlete Pathway”. For many of our students the ultimate goal is winning a basketball scholarship to study at university in the USA.

Our coaching staff includes Phil “Boogie” Hawkins from Texas State University and Natalia Ready from University of Texas at Rio Grande – both NCAA D1 Student Athletes. They know the exact path kids in Thailand need to take to achieve the same outcome. Joining them is Chanapol “Kob” Lousastakul, our lead Thai coach who has won multiple youth championships in Thailand and was on the coaching staff of the National Team under Chris Daleo (USA).

Hoop Club

Hoop Club is much bigger than Thailand – in fact Hoop Club was founded 25 years ago in New Zealand, and we have helped over 100 international student athletes from across the world achieve that USA Scholarship outcome since.

Even more than the glitz and glamour of high level basketball, we believe that basketball can be a vehicle for social change. Getting kids off the streets and involved with a positive activity can help them set goals, inspire them to live great lives, and work on the skills they need to have success in every area. Communication, discipline, leadership, empathy, love, hard work and grinding to achieve your goals are transferable skills that easily carry over to family life, relationships, careers and business. We do not see basketball as the only path to success – but rather “winning the battle on the court, teaches you how to win in life”.

That is why Hoop Club keeps our cost ultra low – at 300 thb per coaching session this means ALL kids can play – no matter what background you are from. Scholarships are also available for the most hardworking and committed players – paid for by supporters of the Hoop Club vision from overseas. We never want finances to be a barrier for kids in Thailand getting good quality coaching.

Every week our coaches run free skills clinics at Klong Toey Youth Centre, and we are working closely with the Bangkok Community Help Foundation to build basketball courts in Thai schools that don’t have them, and renovate old courts so the kids will be excited to play on them.

Hoop Club is a Community Basketball Club – but we are so much MORE THAN BASKETBALL.

Hoop Club in Schools

Hoop Club Thailand runs weekly Club Sessions in several international schools in Bangkok, and in the future these will expand to include major centers around Thailand. Our Club Sessions are targeted at building the next generation of student athletes, and introducing players of all ages and skill levels to the game we love. Club Sessions start at Year 1 (6-7 years old) and cater for both Boys & Girls.
